FAQs

At Optimal Health Institute, we know that patients often have questions before starting treatment. Below, you’ll find answers to the most common questions we receive about our services, approach, and what to expect.

What types of conditions do you treat?

We specialize in treating musculoskeletal issues such as back and neck pain, sciatica, headaches, joint dysfunction, poor posture, and sports injuries. We also work with patients managing chronic pain, inflammation, and limited range of motion. See our Treated Conditions page for a full list.

Do I need a referral from my primary care doctor?

No referral is needed to begin care at our office in McMurray, PA. You can book an appointment directly through our website or by calling us. However, if you’re under ongoing care for a specific condition, we’re happy to collaborate with your physician or specialist if needed.

What should I expect at my first visit?

Your initial appointment includes a full consultation, movement assessment, and discussion of your symptoms, medical history, and health goals. If appropriate, treatment may begin that same day. You’ll leave with a clear understanding of our plan moving forward.

Do chiropractic adjustments hurt?

Chiropractic care is generally very gentle. Most patients feel relief after an adjustment, although some may experience mild soreness—similar to post-exercise muscle fatigue. We always explain each step beforehand and tailor treatments to your comfort level.

Is treatment safe?

Yes. Our team is trained to assess each patient’s condition and health history to ensure every treatment we deliver is appropriate and safe. We use evidence-based techniques, and your care plan will be designed to minimize risk while maximizing results.

Do you accept insurance?

We can provide itemized receipts (“superbills”) for you to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement, though we are not in-network with major insurance carriers. Many patients with HSA/FSA accounts use them for services here. Contact us with questions about your specific plan.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on your condition, goals, and how your body responds to treatment. Acute issues may resolve in just a few sessions, while chronic conditions or performance-based goals may benefit from ongoing care. We’ll revisit and adjust your plan as needed.

What is your approach to nutrition?

We offer nutritional counseling based on evidence-backed strategies. This may include evaluating your current diet, addressing nutrient deficiencies, and suggesting food-based changes or targeted supplements that support your specific goals or recovery needs. Learn more on our Nutritional Counseling page.
